-
Chimney sweeping
We take care of all types of chimneys and flues. That’s anything from traditional inglenooks to ranges and modern log burners. We use a mix of modern and traditional methods, to best suit what’s needed. If you’re unsure if we can take care of your chimney, just ask.
A proper certificate when the job’s done
All sweeping work comes with an insurance-recognised certificate as standard, backed by the NACS. This gives you and your insurance company important paperwork that proves you’ve maintained your chimney.
-
Minor repairs to wood burners
To keep your log burner operating safely and efficiently, it needs servicing from time to time. This can include maintaining things like fire bricks, baffles, door rope seals, amongst other things. Contact us to have a chat about what your wood burner needs.
-
Camera inspections and reports
Sometimes you’ll need to check the condition of your chimney’s interior, usually at the request of your home insurance company. So we use robust camera equipment to see where you can’t. We also offer a service of a full written report, which your insurance company may ask for.
-
Bird nest and pest removal
We love animals, but you may not want them in your chimney! Nesting birds are protected in the UK between March and September, which is usually fine anyway as you won’t be using your chimney during this time. But nests in your chimney are unsafe, so outside these times we can carefully remove them for you. Find out why.
Need something else? Don’t worry if you need something for your chimney or solid fuel heating system and you don’t see it listed above. We may be able to help, or know someone trustworthy who can. Reach out to us.
For residential properties
We love taking care of all types of domestic buildings, including heritage, modern, listed and thatch – everything from stately homes, to chocolate box cottages.
For commercial properties
We have experience working with many business premises, including pub chains, tourism and hospitality, estate agents, housing associations and the public sector.
Before + after some chimney healthcare from A+E
Here’s a few examples of our work.
-
A huge wood burner in an old forge just outside Exeter that needed the works, including new fire bricks, cheeks, baffle and door rope seals. -
A satisfying job with a smart finish to a log burner in a Topsham residential property. Door ropes, glass rope seal and glass were replaced, making it safe again and allowing it to perform the way it should. -
This flue in Bow was letting in dirt and debris from the chimney void. A polished stainless steel collar was fitted to solve the problem and give a nice finish to the wood burner in the customer’s lounge. -
Located in Whitstone, a modern wood burner manufactured here in Exeter. Due to the construction of the burner, special effort was needed to release the fixings to enable repair.
Being not specifically made for the UK market, this North American-style stove in Exeter needed special care and remedial work. Access was cut into the flue pipe, followed by a sweep and finished off with a new brushed stainless steel soot door, allowing easy access for the future.
Have you ever wondered?
-
Why bother having your sweep done by a professional?
For peace of mind! We have the needed training, tools, experience and public liability insurance. We really take pride in our work for you. And it’s certified to the NACS’ exacting standards.
-
Why have birds nests removed?
To keep your chimney working properly (or at all)! If you try lighting a fire with a nest blocking the chimney, you risk filling your home with smoke, or even worse, a fire.
Even if you don’t plan to use a chimney, leaving a nest can also lead to damp, unpleasant pathogens, and fungal spores and bacteria. (The main culprits are Jackdaws. Good nest builders, but not too discerning in their building materials!)
So it’s always best to have nests removed. Dont’t forget, due to UK law protecting nesting birds between March and September, their nests can only be removed outside of this time.
-
What do I need for my home insurance?
If your property is thatched, your insurers will want your NACS backed certificate on their records as soon as we’ve issued it to you. This shows them you’ve maintained your chimney in line with their policy requirements.
If your property isn’t thatched, chances are the insurers only requires sight of the certificate if you have a chimney fire. So it’s important for you to keep the certificate safe, and have the chimney swept at least annually if it’s used.
